Don't miss the amazing and heartbreaking new romance by Samantha Young , Play on

The New York Times Bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series and Hero returns to Scotland in this passionate and evocative romance about love, loss, and surviving both.

Nora O’Brien chased a dream from Indiana to Scotland, so sure it was the right thing to do. Three years later she was left in her adopted country with nothing to her name but guilt and regret.

Until Aidan Lennox entered her life.

Older, worldlier, a music producer and composer, the sexy Scot should never have made sense for Nora. But somehow in each other they found the light they were looking for, the laughter and the passion—the strength to play on despite their past losses.

But when life dealt Aidan another unlucky hand, instead of reaching for her he disappeared. The agonizing loss of him inspired something within Nora. It fired her spirit— the anger and hurt pushing her forward to take control and reach for her dreams.

Finally pursuing a career on stage while she put herself through college, everything is how Nora wants it. She’s avoiding heartbreak and concentrating on her goals.

Sounds easy but it’s not. Because Aidan is back. And for some reason he hates Nora.

He’s determined to be at war with her.

And she has absolutely no idea why.

My review: As you probably know, I am an absolute fan of Samantha Young's novels, so when I had the honor and the privilege of being able to read this novel as an ARC, I was thrilled. Once again Samantha Young offers us a strong, intense and moving romance with characters that we are not ready to forget and more excitingly, the plot takes place in Edinburgh, a  city in Scotland I visited and loved.
Nora O'Brien is a 22 year old young woman who is simply wonderful and offers an extraordinary empathy for others. The novel is divided into three parts and each of these parts represent one part of Nora's life. Every moment of her life will be characterized by guilt and suffering. Even if she doesn't always show it, Nora is a young woman who is hypersensitive and carries on her frail shoulders all the expectations and hopes of other people. But when will she be selfish and will she be selfish? When will she think about her desires, her dreams? I can tell you that I loved this character because she often brought tears to my eyes. What she is experiencing, how she feels is very intense, and despite her departure from her native land and Indiana, Scotland will become her heartland even if she will experience equally painful episodes. So we discovered her at the age of  when she was 18 and she already has the feeling of desertion that is choking her because the facts are such that she has lost something precious without losing a person dear to her. Life doesn't give her a present and she will be forced to work constantly and take care of her father to move on. But this front has nothing shining or motivating.

As for her love life, she will not be resting either. I would simply say that she will know two men in her life that she will love differently. On the one hand, there will be Jim Mc Allister, a pure Scotsman who will arrive in her life as a miracle. With his friend Roddy Livingstone he forms a charming and hilarious duet. Let's not forget Jim's sister and mother that is to say Seonaid and Angie. This group will thus have an absolute influence on her life and each one in their own way will be able to guide her. I liked Jim because he offers her a breath of oxygen at a time when she was suffocating. He won't be the ideal character (but I won't tell you more) but he will remain a milestone in her life. Roddy is a character that I loved because in this gruff aspect, we feel that he has a huge heart. He speaks little but when he expresses himself, he is useful. The one I loved above all is Seonaid as she will be like a sister and a faithful and loyal friend to Nora. I loved her jovial and optismist side. She will also be able to clarify situations when everything will go wrong. She will be if we can say the buoy Nora needs and she can ely on her in the heart of the storm. Shortly, she will be a good guide in the tormented life of Nora.

Another male character in this romance, Aidan Lennox is clearly the almost perfect hero. As soon as he is on stage, a kind of light arises and his charism will wreak havoc. Although he is a music producer and composer, he will show humility and wisdom. Indeed, he will be much older than the rest of the characters and yet there will never be this superiority towards other characters. It must be said that there is also a great maturity in Nora because we feel that she had to grow faster than other children. As I said, he will be almost perfect because he will commit acts that will bleed our heart and Nora's but that is what will make all the more magnificent this romance. As I often say, I adore when a love story is born from suffering and pain and here, the least we can say is that it will be the case. The love story will not happen in a day but years will have to pass before you can touch this happiness. In the end, we will know very little about Aidan's friends because we know very little of them. Yet his family's story will forge the man he has become.

Indeed, we didn't see Aidan at work in the musical field a lot because he is a man who has the sense of family and who has also suffered but who tries to go ahead and to adapt to the situation. What I love about him is his almost paternal relationship with his niece Sylvie. I loved this young woman who will make the "link" between Aidan and Nora. The latter, as I told you, has an enormous empathy for others and their suffering, so it is not surprising to see her do volunteer hours in a hospital to read to sick children and sometimes suffering from cancer . This act is more than praiseworthy but is not surprising either because it marks her life and her vision of things. Sylvie is not sick but she enjoys spending time with Nora during her volunteer hours. This girl is endowed with a great intelligence and I loved her repartees. We get attached very quickly to her and thanks to her, we have a very moving vision of Aidan. What will surprise us, then, is the discovery of a very horrible aspect of Aidan when Nora finds him again two years later. Will Nora be entitled to her happiness and the fulfillment of her dreams? Will we find the adorable Aidan we have known?

In short, if you read in english do not miss this wonderful romance that is read addictively. The emotions are vivid, intense and so realistic. Samantha Young offers us an extraordinary romance in a dreamy setting and with strong themes. I love it when I can visualize the places mentioned in a novel and Play On reminded me of moments of my stay in Edinburgh. Nora will know how to touch you in the depths of your heart and you will not be insensitive to the charm of Aidan.
